Ashes Over Lordaeron: Origins of the 1st Fist of Light

Post by Banegrivm » Tue Nov 21, 2017 1:17 am

It was the time of the third war. The traitor Arthas walked freely into Lordaeron and slew his own father, overturning the crown; turning the once gleaming city of the alliance to a city of ash and shadow. Out of those ashes arose the Scarlet Crusade who would fight to destroy all the holdings of the Scourge and their dark lord, Arthas Menethil; who would become the Lich King. But for the Scarlet Crusade, there would be no end, until the undead were wiped from the face of Azeroth for all time. Even when the Forsaken broke from the Horde and asked for clemency, there would be none. The only mercy the Forsaken would receive from the Scarlet Crusade was a swift end.

The five founders of the Scarlet Crusade were called into session. High General Abbendis, Grand Inquisitor Isillien, Renault Mograine, Taelan Fordring, and Saidan Dathrohan all sat at long oak table. Saidan was the first to speak. I do not think we are pushing just enough. Ever still the Forsaken remain seated in Lordaeron and even more still, we are faced with the threat of the Lich King and his minions that remain festering within the Plaguelands." The others at the table sat and nodded knowingly and quipped back and forth with one another until finally the Grand Inquisitor took the floor.

"I believe the answer is simple. We already know that there is much evil scattered throughout the ruins of Lordaeron. If we want to eliminate the threats, we first must root them out. Then we can burn them before the holy power of the light! No evil shall be spared! None!", the Isillien said, ending his statement with a clenched fist upon the table before continuing. "I move that we form a special unit under my pervue as Grand Inquisitor. A military force dedicated to this task, that will act under my orders, destroying everything we deem an enemy of the Scarlet Crusade."

Isillien's eyes went wide and his mouth slightly grinned. Saidan's eyes narrowed and his mouth almost seemed to twist into a twisted feral like grin. While the five continued in their deliberations of the Scarlet Crusade, that day would mark the beginning of the Grand Inquisitor's elite military inquisition, the 1st Fist of Light. For the damned that would dwell in the ranks of the Forsaken and the Scourge, there would be only dread and despair before these crusaders of the Holy Light.

As the 1st Fist of Light continued in their campaigns against both the Forsaken and the Scourge they would see much fighting on front lines; ultimately learning a terrible truth about Grand Inquisitor Isillien and the whole of the Scarlet Crusade. Grand Inquisitor Isillien had decreed that newly risen members of the Scourge could appear as if human, so any who were even suspected of being members of the Scourge were put to the sword; but this was only a grim beginning.

The 1st Fist of Light would be dispatched to a small village just south of the Plaguelands. The village was going to be a source of new soldiers in the Scourge war machine and the army of light was to purge the village to ensure that these new soldiers would never be greeted by their masters. What they saw and what they were told that they would see were two totally different things. Instead of being greeted by the dead they were greeted by villagers who were excited to see the crusaders along with children playing in the streets... children.

The crusaders knew the decree of Grand Inquisitor Isillien but stood aghast in disbelief. When they questioned their orders, the emissary who was a priest of the holy light reminded the crusaders of their duty and their orders given to them by the Grand Inquisitor. The band of holy warriors began squabbling amongst themselves and argued with the emissary over right and wrong, but the emissary would hear none of it. Again he reminded them of their orders and demanded the village be purged, all the way down to every last woman and child. The emissary made it clear the 1st Fist of Light would do as they were told or they would all be brought before the headsman's axe, even if he had to do it himself. The confrontation was clear, but it would not end as the emissary would expect.

A short time later a courier from Stormwind arrived in Tyr's Hand, clad in the red and gold armor of the 1st Fist of Light. He delivered a package for the Grand Inquisitior and then departed as swiftly as he came. "What's this?" he muttered, opening the large box. Inside was the blood soaked tabard of the emissary and a note that simply read; "we now know the truth, when next we meet we will be enemies". Isillien sat back in his chair in disbelief. An entire military force, his entire inquisition, defected from the Scarlet Crusade. It was a definitive end, but a new beginning for the 1st Fist of Light.
